ATLANTA — Georgia State Women's Tennis opened their season with a short road trip to face crosstown rival Georgia Tech. The Panthers were able to steal a set from Tech in doubles, but were unable to secure a point, going on to lose by a final tally of 7-0.
In their first doubles action of the season,
Sara Radojevic and
Sveva Bernardi toppled Georgia Tech's Taly Licht and Olivia Carneiro, 6-3. The Panthers were unable to secure the opening point, however, as the Yellowjackets took sets on the first and third lines.
Playing from the second line in singles, Radojevic once again gave Licht all she could handle, but eventually fell 10-5 in the tiebreaking third set.
Maria Paredes also pushed her counterpart to the brink on the first line, taking the opening set before narrowly dropping a tiebreaker in the second set, 7-6, and the tiebreaking third set by a final score of 10-8. The Panthers dropped courts three through six all in straight sets.
Georgia State will face another tough out of conference test when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Al. to take on Alabama on Saturday, January 24.
