ATLANTA – Georgia State scored once in the opening minutes and never looked back, rolling past in-state rival Kennesaw State 4-0 Thursday night at the GSU Soccer Complex. The Panthers improved to 3-1 on the season with their second straight shutout.
GSU struck early when pressure inside the box forced an own goal in the fourth minute to set the tone. The Panthers continued to push, firing 11 shots in the first half, but goalkeeper Charlee Bernal and the KSU back line held firm to keep it a one-goal match at halftime.
The floodgates opened shortly after the break. Just 53 seconds into the second half, junior forward Reese Gordon doubled the advantage with her second goal of the year, finishing a pass from Gabriela Gonzalez. Gordon then turned provider minutes later, assisting Emily Glenn's first goal of the night in the 52nd minute.
Glenn added her second just five minutes later, calmly slotting home a cross from Gonzalez to make it 4-0. The brace marked Glenn's first multi-goal performance of her career.
Georgia State's attack proved relentless, outshooting the Owls 23-0 and holding a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Gonzalez notched two assists, while Gordon added a goal and an assist to pace the Panthers' offense.
Defensively, the back line of Lily Sawyer, Elise Nystrom, and Mackenzie Fitzgerald anchored another shutout as goalkeeper Ariana Anderson was untested over 90 minutes. The clean sheet was GSU's third in four matches to open the 2025 campaign.
Next, the Panthers travel to Columbia, S.C., to take on #12 South Carolina on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
