Panthers Set for In-State Battle with Kennesaw State, Road Trip to South Carolina

ATLANTA – Georgia State women's soccer continues its early-season slate with two matches this week, first hosting Kennesaw State on Thursday, August 28, at the GSU Soccer Complex before traveling to SEC power #16 South Carolina on Sunday, August 31. Thursday's contest against the Owls kicks off at 7 p.m., while Sunday's match in Columbia begins at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

Panthers Riding Back-to-Back Home Wins

The Panthers (2-1-0) enter the week after earning their second straight shutout at home, defeating West Georgia 3-0 behind a relentless offensive performance. Junior forward Reese Gordon scored the breakthrough in the 52nd minute off an assist from Sunniyah Tucker, before Elise Nystrom and Hina Suzuki each added goals to seal the win.

Through three matches, Georgia State has tallied 11 goals on 69 total shots, averaging nearly 23 attempts per game. The Panthers have also dominated set pieces with a 21-7 advantage in corner kicks.

Tucker, who has scored in two matches and added an assist against West Georgia, continues to be a dangerous presence in the attack. Suzuki, a junior transfer, now has four goals in her first three games with the Panthers, while team captain Aaliyah Faddoul has contributed a goal and three assists to pace the offense.

Defensively, goalkeeper Ariana Anderson has started all three matches and owns two clean sheets, including a six-save performance against the Wolves.

Match 1: Georgia State vs. Kennesaw State

Thursday's contest marks another in-state showdown, as the Panthers face longtime rival Kennesaw State (0-2-0).  Georgia State and Kennesaw State last met last season, when the Panthers earned the 2-0 victory. 

Match 2: Georgia State at #16 South Carolina

On Sunday, the Panthers travel to Columbia to face #16 South Carolina (4-0-0), one of the premier programs in the SEC and a consistent NCAA Tournament contender.
