ATLANTA --The Georgia State Panthers were not able to record a run against Utah Valley pitcher freshman Lily Riley on Tuesday and were shut out 1-0 by the Wolverines.
Senior Sydney Boulware (2-5) got the ball to start for Georgia State (5-13) and took the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. Senior Emily Hodnett was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Panthers were led by senior Kiki Edwards, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double. Junior Maia Mumpfield furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Panthers last got a runner on third in the seventh, when senior McKenzie Walker made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» The Panthers out-hit the Wolverines at a 4-3 clip.
