Georgia State Out-Hits Coastal Carolina but falls 3-1

CONWAY, S.C. --Despite picking up nine hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Coastal Carolina, Georgia State was unable to push across more runs, as the Panthers fell to the Chanticleers 3-1 Saturday.

Sophomore Makayla Stephens (3-9) started and took the loss in the circle for Georgia State (10-32, 2-12-0). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing three walks and striking out three.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Chloe Middlebrooks, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double. Senior Kiki Edwards put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Middlebrooks came across to score the lone run of the inning for Georgia State and get them on the board. Coastal Carolina then scored two times over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 3-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» Georgia State's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed one run across.
» The Panthers out-hit the Chanticleers at a 9-4 clip.
