Panthers Conclude Paradise Classic with Doubleheader Loss

BOCA RATON – Georgia State dropped both games of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Wisconsin in Game One and 8-1 to host FAU on the final day of the Paradise Classic at Joan Joyce Field.

Maia Mumpfield went a combined 3-for-6 to lead the Panthers at the plate.  The junior from Dacula, Ga. has recorded a hit in each of her last four games and currently leads the team with a .429 batting average.

GAME ONE: Wisconsin 2, Georgia State 0

Sydney Boulware (0-2) got the start and pitched for 4.0 innings, allowing two hits, two unearned runs in the fourth inning, four hits, a walk and two strikeouts.  Emily Hodnett came on to pitch in the fifth and threw for two scoreless innings.

Those two unearned runs proved costly as the Panther offense struggled with just three hits.

Georgia State (0-5) had a chance to put runs on the board in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases with two outs., but couldn't capitalize as pinch-hitter Jordan Rayner struck out looking on an 0-2 count.

Gabi Salo got the start for Wisconsin (4-1) and pitched a complete-game shutout.  Her final line saw her throw for 7.0 innings, allowing three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Florida Atlantic 8, Georgia State 1

Georgia State's bats came alive in the top of the first inning when Ashton Schroyer drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a single by Ryleigh Garrett, and scored on a single to center field by Maia Mumpfield to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.  That was the only offense that GSU could muster as Florida Atlantic (6-0) responded with eight unanswered runs over the next four innings.

Mumpfield (0-1) led the Panthers at the plate with two hits and got the start and pitched for two innings in her first appearance in the circle since 2023 but absorbed the loss.

Freshman Morgan Willingham recorded her first collegiate hit with a double to center field in the seventh inning.

Jeseina Mora went 3-for-4 with three RBI's to lead FAU at the plate.

Georgia State will travel to Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday, February 13 for Game One of their two-game series against the South Carolina Gamecocks at the Carolina Softball Stadium.  First pitch is at 6 p.m.
