TAMPA, Fla. -- The Georgia State beach volleyball team opened the season with a 2-2 finish at the Tampa Invitational, defeating Florida International and Tampa, on Saturday.
The Sandy Panthers opened the season defeating Florida International 3-2 in game one of the tournament.
Ayla Johnson and
Aree Keller put up a quick 2-0 (21-12, 22-20) against Florida International.
Savannah Ebarb and
Destiny White followed with a 2-1 (18-21, 26-24, 15-10) win at flight one.
Kaebre Sullivan and
Kaylie Drysdale also finished with a win after going 2-1 (12-21, 21-12, 15-9) against FIU.
In match two of the day, The Panthers defeated Tampa 4-1. Pairs
Savannah Ebarb (24-22, 21-18) and
Destiny White, and
Ayla Johnson and
Aree Keller (21-17, 21-18) both went undefeated against UTampa. Pairs Aliisa Vourinen and
Aree Keller (18-21, 21-15, 15-10), and
Michaela Jefferson and
Danica Singleton (19-21, 21-19, 15-12) both won 3-1.
The Panthers dropped matches against No. 14 ranked Washington (2-3) and No. 16 ranked Florida Atlantic (2-3).
The Panthers are back in action at the Seminole Beach Bash, hosted by Florida State, on Feb. 28- March 1.
