ATLANTA – Georgia State women's soccer saw a late lead slip away Sunday afternoon, settling for a 1-1 draw against Coastal Carolina in Sun Belt play at the GSU Soccer Complex. Junior forward Aaliyah Faddoul opened the scoring just four minutes into the match, but the Chanticleers netted the equalizer in the 90th minute.
The Panthers came out flying in front of the home crowd, breaking the deadlock in the fourth minute. Faddoul pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired it past the Coastal Carolina keeper for her fifth goal of the season.
Georgia State continued to control possession in the first half, outshooting the Chanticleers 5-2 and creating several chances off three corner kicks. Sunniyah Tucker forced the only save of the half with a low shot in the 27th minute, while defender Therese Brink also came close in the 36th minute.
The second half saw Coastal Carolina push forward in search of an equalizer, recording six shots and four corner kicks after the break. Georgia State's back line, anchored by Briana Hill, Lily Sawyer, and Brook Nelson, held firm for most of the half. Goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte came up with a key save in the 47th minute on a shot by Tamlyn Parkes.
However, the visitors finally broke through in the dying moments. In the 90th minute, Parkes collected a pass from Eleanor Ashton and slotted home the tying goal, denying Georgia State its fourth Sun Belt win of the season.
The Panthers finished with six total shots, including two on goal, while Coastal Carolina had eight shots with two on frame. Faddoul led the attack with two shots, while Tucker, Reese Gordon, Emily Glenn, and Brink each recorded a shot.
Iriarte made one save in 90 minutes of action as Georgia State moved to 7-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. Coastal Carolina moved to 3-4-5 and 0-1-5 in the league.
