Sandy Panthers Receive 2024 AVCA Team Academic Award

ATLANTA— The Georgia State beach volleyball team has received the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, as announced by the organizations on Wednesday. This marks the 11th consecutive season that GSU has been recognized, the longest active streak among collegiate beach volleyball programs. In addition to the award, the Sandy Panthers also earn the prestigious Honor Roll distinction for representing the top 20 percent of team grade-point averages in Division I collegiate beach.

The Sandy Panthers wrapped another impressive semester in the classroom this past spring by posting a team GPA of 3.77 in addition to earning a spot in this year's NCAA Championship Tournament. Upon hearing about the recognition, head coach, Beth Van Fleet, stated:

"This team works hard to set and maintain our standard both in and out of the sand. To earn the AVCA Academic Award and Honor Roll is an incredible achievement and is a direct reflection of the work ethic that each team member possesses. I am so proud of the commitment that these humans continue to display in the classroom."

The AVCA Team Academic Award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams of all divisions and levels that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.  More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for 2024, marking an all-time record number of programs honored for academic achievements.
