ATLANTA, GA— The Georgia State beach volleyball program capped another highly successful season by earning a final national ranking No. 14 in the AVCA Final Collegiate Beach Poll.
Led by head coach
Beth Van Fleet, the Sandy Panthers won their second straight Sun Belt Conference championship and third consecutive conference title to reach the NCAA National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship for the third straight year and fifth time overall.
Van Fleet's squad finished the 2024 season with a 26-13 record, tying the second-best season win total in program history. Georgia State has posted eight consecutive 20-win seasons (not counting the abbreviated 2020 campaign).
Georgia State earned eight victories over nationally-ranked opponents during the season, highlighted by wins over No. 10 Washington and No. 8 LSU, the Panthers' highest-ranked victory since their 2022 win over No. 2 TCU. GSU also scored wins against No. 15 Florida Atlantic, No. 17 South Carolina, No. 17 Stetson, No. 17 Grand Canyon, No. 19 Tampa and No. 20 South Carolina. The Panthers played a total of 20 matches against ranked foes.
Georgia State continued to shine in the Sun Belt, going 12-0 against league foes during the regular season and conference tournament, capped by a 3-1 victory over Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Conference Championship match in Huntsville, Ala.
The No. 4 pair of
Elise Saga and
Aliisa Vuorinen received the Sun Belt's Pair of the Tournament Award to go with their selection to All-Tournament Team.
Lila Bordis and
Aree Keller were also named to the All-Tournament Team for the 2024 championship in Huntsville, as the pair went undefeated in the championship series.
The historic season also came with numerous post-season honors, including Van Fleet's back-to-back Sun Belt Coach of the Year honors. Junior transfer
Aree Keller received Sun Belt Newcomer of the year. Angel and
Bella Ferary,
Savannah Ebarb and
Destiny White, and
Aree Keller and
Lila Bordis were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference first team.
The Sandy Panthers squad marked numerous historic marks for Georgia State. The No. 1 duo of seniors
Angel Ferary and
Bella Ferary became the winningest pair in GSU history with 100 wins. Individually,
Bella Ferary finished with the most career wins in program history with 105, followed by
Angel Ferary with 100.
Savannah Ebarb broke the GSU record for wins by a freshman 27.
Off the court, Van Fleet's team excelled in the classroom, earning academic honors for the team's 3.76 GPA. Fifteen Sandy Panthers received academic honors including five President's List honors, seven Dean's List honors and three Academic Honor Roll honors.
