Three Panthers Notch Homers in Day Three Against Marshall

ATLANTA, Ga --The Georgia State Panthers brought an 8-3 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 9-8 to the Marshall Thundering Herd Sunday.

Freshman Makayla Stephens (2-5) got the ball to start for Georgia State (10-27, ) and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Georgia State hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring seven runs.

The Thundering Herd then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 7-3 until the Panthers expanded their advantage in the third. Georgia State picked up a run on sophomore Ashton Schroyer's leadoff home run off of junior B.Feringa, which brought the score to 8-3 in favor of the Panthers. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Marshall scored six times over the remaining four innings to grab the 9-8 win.

» Every Panthers starter reached base safely in the loss.

Junior B.Feringa and junior L.Henson combined to throw a shutout on Saturday as the Marshall Thundering Herd blanked the Georgia State Panthers 11-0.

Junior Emily Hodnett (0-5) got the ball to start for Georgia State (10-26, ) and took the loss.

Georgia State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Panthers went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the sixth, when senior Carolyn Deady made it into scoring position with two outs.

» Senior Chloe Nadler led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-2.

Senior S.Rice and freshman K.Washington combined to toss a shutout on Friday as the Marshall Thundering Herd blanked the Georgia State Panthers 15-0.

Junior Sydney Boulware (5-11) got the ball to start for Georgia State (10-25, ) and took the loss.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Carolyn Deady, who went 0-for-0 on the day with two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Georgia State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Panthers went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fourth, when junior Alice Thomas made it into scoring position with two outs.
