Late Goal Secures Panthers 2-1 Win Over Georgia Southern

ATLANTA, -- Georgia State secured a 2-1 victory against Georgia Southern Thursday (Oct. 24) at the GSU Soccer Complex. Georgia State's Aaliyah Faddoul, assisted by Brook Nelson, opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, giving the Panthers an early lead. Georgia Southern equalized in the second half with a penalty by Smith Cathey in the 72nd minute, leveling the match at 1-1. However, Georgia State's Emily Glenn, also assisted by Nelson, scored in the 88th minute to secure the win.

How it Happened

Georgia State started the scoring when Aaliyah Faddoul notched her sixth goal of the season in the 21st minute, assisted by Brook Nelson.

The Eagles evened the match on a goal from Smith Cathey in the 71st minute.

Georgia State then grabbed a 2-1 lead on Emily Glenn's 87th-minute goal, her second of the season. Nelson assisted the goal. The score finished off the 2-1 game.

Game Notes

  • Georgia State received two yellow cards.
  • Jaddah Foos piled up four saves for the Panthers out of 10 total Lady Eagles shots.
  • Georgia State registered three shots on goal.
  • Brook Nelson set a new career-high with two assists in the game. It also marked her first multi-point game. 

Georgia State improved to 3-7-6 overall and 2-2-4 in Sun Belt play with the victory.

Georgia State returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m., as it heads on the road to face Louisiana.
