Diez Lois, Diaz Named to 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt Team

ATLANTA— Georgia State women's soccer fifth-year defender Eva Diez Lois and senior midfielder Elena Diaz have been named to the 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt Team, as announced by the conference on Monday. Helping the Panthers to nine wins in 2022 with a repeat trip to the Sun Belt Conference Semifinals for a fifth consecutive year, Spain natives Diez Lois and Diaz will look to help GSU to another successful fall campaign as the Panthers prepare to open 2023 competition. 

Diez Lois enters a fifth season of competition for the Panthers having received All-Sun Belt honors last fall. The native of Santander, Spain reached the 5000 career-minutes mark for GSU in 2022 and helped lead the GSU defense to nine shutouts on the year.

Diez Lois also connected on two goals for the fall and tied for a team-high .667% shot-on-goal percentage.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Diaz joined the GSU roster as a transfer from Daytona State in 2022 and made 21 appearances with starts in all 21 of the team's matches. Diaz helped lead the Panthers' well-balanced scoring attack a season ago, leading GSU in scoring with a team high of five goals, finishing tied for second on the team in shots and shots on goal with 25 and 13 respectively and finishing tied for second in assists with two on the year. 

Diaz would also finish tied for second in shooting percentage with a .200% final mark, and charted a .520% final shot-on-goal percentage for the fall. The Spaniard also notched a total of three PKs for the team in 2022.

GSU begins play on Thursday, Aug. 10 with an exhibition match facing Clayton State. Following an additional exhibition match against Chattanooga on Sunday, Aug. 13, the Panthers will open the 2023 regular season with a home match against South Carolina State on Thursday, Aug. 17.

The Panthers' home opener against South Carolina State is slated for 7 p.m. ET, with the team set to host the outing at the GSU Soccer Complex in downtown Atlanta. Information on parking at the Panthers' first home event can be found using the link below.
