Van Fleet Named 2023 Sun Belt Beach Volleyball Coach of the Year

ATLANTA— Georgia State head beach volleyball coach Beth Van Fleet has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Head Coach of the Year for 2023, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

Having faced 21 nationally ranked opponents over the course of the team's 32-match regular-season slate, Van Fleet has guided the No. 14-ranked Sandy Panthers to 16 wins for the 2023 spring season. GSU has downed six nationally ranked opponents while maintaining a ranking of top-15 or better for the extent of the spring.

Van Fleet has coached three different Sandy Panthers' pairs to a total of four Sun Belt Conference Pair of the Week accolades this season. In addition to Van Fleet's Head Coach of the Year accolade, top-flight pair Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary received the conference's Pair of the Year award, while junior Lila Bordis earned SBC Newcomer of the Year honors.

Three pairs from GSU were named to the All-Sun Belt Team for 2023, with the Ferary sisters earning a First-Team nod, and Bordis alongside teammate Yasmin Kuck receiving Second-Team honors. Fifth-year Maddy Delmonte and sophomore Ayla Johnson rounded out the team's list of postseason accolades, as the duo was also named to the Sun Belt's Second Team.

No. 14 GSU opens play at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Beach Volleyball Championship on April 27. The top-seeded Sandy Panthers will battle No. 8 seed Stephen F. Austin for the first round of tournament competition.

Dual matches will be contested at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Ala. and broadcast live on ESPN+. Live scoring will be available for fans.
