Panthers Sweep Ragin' Cajuns, 4-0, Advance to Sun Belt Conference Semifinals

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.— Georgia State men's tennis opened competition at the Sun Belt Conference Championship at Peachtree City Tennis Center on Thursday as the No. 6 seed in the tournament and posted a 4-0 sweep facing No. 3-seeded Louisiana. Roberts Grinvalds, Diogo Morais and Edward Tymes charted singles victories in straight sets to secure the Panthers' shutout and help the team advance in SBC tournament play.

GSU notched the first point of the match with an early doubles victory, as Grinvalds partnered with freshman teammate Gabriele Datei to secure a 6-4 win at the top court. The duo enters SBC tournament play having earned All-Sun Belt Second-Team honors for doubles earlier in the week.

Morais teamed with fifth-year teammate Diego Padilha and charted a 6-3 win at the second doubles court. The win on court two clinched doubles for the Panthers and gave the team a 1-0 lead for the match entering singles.

Morais earned the team a second point with a 6-2, 6-3 win in straight sets at the third singles court. Tymes followed up the win with a strong 6-1, 6-3 win at court five to give GSU a 3-0 advantage for the match.

Grinvalds downed his opponent at the second singles court with a 7-6, 6-1 victory to clinch match point for the Panthers. With the 4-0 sweep, GSU advances to the SBC Semifinals and will face No. 2 seed Old Dominion on Friday, April 21.

The Panthers' semifinal matchup against No. 2-seeded ODU will be contested at Peachtree City Tennis Center with match time slated for 10 a.m. ET. The outing will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with live stats provided by the conference.
