ATLANTA – Georgia State (15-27, 4-10 Sun Belt) dropped the series to Georgia Southern (15 -21, 5-8 Sun Belt) after splitting a double header on Saturday afternoon.
Maia Mumpfield and
Bailee Richardson hit home runs to lead the Panthers to a 6-3 win in game one. The Panthers then fell to the Eagles in game two in five innings, 14-3, to drop the series.
In game one, Freshman,
Maia Mumpfield hit her first career home run to put the Panthers on the board first in the second inning.
The Eagles answered in the top of the third with two runs to take the lead on two rbi singles. Then scored one more on a wild pitch in the third.
Down 2-1,
Bailee Richardson tied up the game with her ninth home run of the season. That would be the senior third baseman's only hit of game.
Nadler came up to the plate, down 3-2 with three runners on and rbi singled to shortstop to score Deady to tie up the game.
Emily Brown stole her 19
th base of the season to move into the top five in the GSU record book for career stolen bases.
With bases loaded again
Ashton Schroyer tripled to left field to for three rbi to seal the win for the Panthers.
Emily Hodnett (5-10) was rewarded the win after pitching a complete game, only walking three and striking out six.
In game two, Georgia Southern came in hot as they rattled off two back-to-back rbi doubles in the first. The Eagles continued to score in the second, fourth and fifth inning to take the series, 14-3.
Hallie Adams (4-10) was given the loss after only pitching one inning, letting up two hits and walking one.
The Panthers take on Georgia Tech, Tuesday, April 18
th in a Midtown vs. Downtown matchup. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
