White, Vuorinen Named Sun Belt Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week

ATLANTA— Georgia State beach volleyball duo Destiny White and Aliisa Vuorinen received Sun Belt Conference Pair of the Week honors on Wednesday after posting a 3-1 finish at the Tampa Invitational last weekend. Pairing at the fifth flight, White and Vuorinen accounted for ranked victories facing No. 6 Grand Canyon and No. 11 Stetson to help lead the No. 10-ranked Sandy Panthers to a 2-2 split for tournament competition in Tampa.

Week two of 2023 dual match tournament play for GSU saw the Sandy Panthers battle three nationally ranked opponents in No. 6 GCU, No. 11 Stetson and No. 3 TCU. White and Vuorinen notched a three-set victory over GCU to earn the team's second point in match play and the duo's first win on the weekend.

After dropping a hard-fought battle, 3-2, facing the sixth-ranked Lopes, GSU returned to action later that day in an outing against No. 11 Stetson and charted a 4-1 victory. White and Vuorinen posted a 21-13, 21-18 win in straight sets versus the Hatters and wrapped the first day in Tampa with an unbeaten 2-0 record as a pair.

Returning to action for day two, GSU battled No. 3 overall TCU and dropped the dual match facing the Horned Frogs. White and Vuorinen fought but ultimately came up short at the fifth flight for GSU as the loss against marked the pair's only defeat over the weekend.

GSU closed tournament play in Tampa with a matchup against Florida Gulf Coast. White and Vuorinen's 21-15, 21-14 straight-set victory facing the Eagles highlighted the Sandy Panthers' 4-1 finish for the match and earned the duo its third win.

GSU opens dual match tournament play at home on Wednesday hosting the annual GSU Day of Duals in Atlanta. The tournament held at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex will see the Sandy Panthers welcome a pair of Sun Belt Conference opponents in No. 20 Coastal Carolina and Mercer, as well as No. 4 overall Florida State.
