No. 10 Sandy Panthers Wrap March To May Charting Back-to-Back Wins

GULF SHORES, Ala.— The No. 10 ranked Georgia State beach volleyball team concluded March To May competition in Gulf Shores with back-to-back wins over tournament host UAB and No. 19 Tulane on Sunday. The Sandy Panthers' slate of competition over the weekend included five matchups against AVCA top-20 ranked teams and saw GSU drop its first four outings, before Yasmin Kuck and Lila Bordis helped the team chart the pair of wins with consecutive match-clinching victories at the second flight.

Teaming for the 17th time in 2023, Sunday marked Kuck and Bordis' first appearance as a pair at the second flight. The duo posted a one-sided victory, 21-12, 21-17, over host UAB to secure match point, then followed up the win with a second match-clinching performance facing Tulane, downing opponents at the second flight in three sets, 17-21, 21-18, 15-11.

Kuck and Bordis have charted a team-high 10 victories as a pair this spring.

Sisters Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary teamed at the top flight and notched a 21-16, 23-21 win in straight sets over UAB on Sunday. The pair followed up the victory with a win in three sets at the top flight facing the No. 19 ranked Green Wave, battling back down a set for a 17-21, 21-17, 15-12 final count.

GSU would post straight-sets victories at flights one, two, three and five in the team's match against UAB. Kelly Dorn and Elise Saga notched a 21-18, 21-13 win at the third flight, while Maddy Delmonte and Ayla Johnson collected a 21-9, 22-20 win at the fifth flight.

Destiny White and Aliisa Vuorinen accounted for the team's first point in the match against Tulane with a 22-20, 15-21, 15-10 three-set win at the fifth flight.

GSU opened play in Gulf Shores on Friday with dual matches against No. 6 LSU and No. 5 LMU. GSU would ultimately drop both matches as each opponent clinched a 3-0 win.

The Sandys returned for day-two competition on Saturday with a dual match against No. 3 UCLA. GSU fell at all five positions facing the No. 3-ranked Bruins and was shut out in the match, 5-0.

The team opened its final day of competition on Sunday with a rematch against No. 4 FSU. Marking a fourth consecutive matchup against a top-10 nationally ranked foe, GSU would once again drop at all five flights and fall short in the dual facing the Seminoles, 5-0.

The wins over UAB and No. 19 Tulane would earn GSU two wins for the weekend as the team finished with a 2-4 final record for March To May competition.

No. 10 Georgia State will return to tournament play next weekend as the team travels to Columbia, South Carolina, for the Gamecock Grand Slam. Dual match competition will take place on March 25-26 and include outings against tournament host No. 20 South Carolina, Arizona State, Tampa and Houston Christian.

More information leading up to the tournament in Columbia will be released later in the week. Follow Georgia State beach volleyball on Twitter and Instagram (@GSUBeachVb) for continued updates and complete coverage of the team's 2023 spring campaign.
