Women's Tennis Falls Hosting Coastal Carolina

ATLANTA— Georgia State women's tennis (1-10) hosted Sun Belt Conference opponent Coastal Carolina at the GSU Clarkston Courts on Saturday and saw defeat, 4-1, facing the Chanticleers. The Panthers were led by a strong effort from fifth-year graduate Eva Chivu, who posted a 6-4, 6-2 win in straight sets at the top singles court to earn GSU its only point of the match.

The Panthers entered Saturday forced to default at the third doubles court, giving Coastal Carolina an early point advantage in the match. GSU battled on courts one and two before seeing a narrow 6-4 loss at the first court as CCU clinched the early doubles point.

Maria Paredes and Alexia Alvarez went unfinished at doubles court two leading, 5-4.

GSU was once again forced to default at No. 6 singles due to the team's shorthanded roster, and the Panthers began singles competition 2-0 down for the match.

Chivu charted the top-court victory for GSU before the team came up short on singles courts No. 2 and No. 4 and fell in the match. The Panthers move to 1-1 in conference play and 1-10 overall for the 2023 season with the loss.

GSU returns to action in Atlanta next Saturday, March 25 with a conference outing at home versus Marshall. Match time is slated for 10 a.m. ET with further information to follow later in the week.
