Men's Tennis Drops Trio of Matches

ATLANTA— Georgia State men's tennis (3-11) wrapped competition for the week posting three losses facing No. 57 FAU, UTSA and Sun Belt Conference rival Georgia Southern. Despite the trio of losses, the week was highlighted by a strong performance from Roberts Grinvalds in the team's match against FAU on Wednesday, as the fifth-year posted a 6-4, 7-6 victory at the top singles court for the Panthers to notch a ranked win.

Traveling to Boca Raton, Florida, GSU entered Wednesday's match facing FAU and fought for the early point in doubles. The Panthers ultimately fell short in doubles play facing the ranked foe and fell behind, 1-0, entering singles.

Grinvalds' No. 1 singles victory earned GSU its first and only point of the match. The Panthers fell on courts two-six and saw defeat by a final count of 6-1.

GSU returned to Atlanta on Friday and hosted UTSA indoors at Peachtree City Tennis Center. Another tightly contested doubles outing saw Edward Tymes and Gabriele Datei secure a 6-3 victory at court three for the Panthers, before UTSA charted wins at courts one and two and clinched the early point to go ahead 1-0 for the match.

The Panthers' top three singles courts battled to three sets at each position, while Diego Padilha posted a 7-5, 7-5 victory at court four to notch a point in GSU's favor. With courts one and two narrowly dropping the hard-fought contests, the Panthers would ultimately be defeated following a loss at court five as UTSA clinched the match, 4-1.

GSU returned to play for its third match of the week on Saturday and opened Sun Belt Conference competition hosting in-state rival Georgia Southern. The Panthers would once again drop a close doubles outing, giving Georgia Southern a 1-0 advantage in the match entering singles.

Losses at singles courts one, three and five would mark a 4-0 deficit for the Panthers, and GSU fell short in its conference opener against rival Georgia Southern, 4-0.

GSU returns to action next weekend with a pair of conference matches on the road. The Panthers will travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for an outing against SBC newcomer JMU on Friday, March 24.

Saturday, March 25 will see the team travel to Norfolk, Virginia, for a match facing SBC newcomer Old Dominion. Both match times are slated for 1 p.m. ET with further information to follow later in the week.
