Panthers Fall to Kennesaw State, 5-2

KENNESAW, Ga.— Georgia State women's tennis traveled for a road match against Kennesaw State on Tuesday and saw defeat facing the Owls, 5-2. Despite strong singles performances from Eva Chivu and Alexia Alvarez, the Panthers fell short of victory after dropping the early doubles point and coming up short at the second, third and fourth singles court positions.

Chivu posted another strong win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, competing at the top singles court for GSU on Tuesday. The fifth-year veteran has now charted four straight-set singles victories for the Panthers in 2023.

Alvarez notched a 6-2, 7-5 victory at singles No. 5 for the Panthers as the senior accounted for the team's second point of the match.

After being forced to default at No. 6 singles entering Tuesday's match against KSU, the Panthers fell in doubles and began singles competition down, 0-2. KSU clinched match point with victories at the second and fourth court positions.

Playing out the match, Chivu and Alvarez secured a pair of points for GSU with the wins at the first and fifth positions. Maria Paredes played a third set tiebreak at the third court, ultimately dropping the tightly contested match and conceding a fifth point in KSU's favor.

The Panthers' match against the Owls ended by a final count of 5-2. GSU closes the month of February falling to 0-9 for the spring.

GSU travels to Montgomery, Alabama on Friday, March 3 for a meeting with Alabama State. Match time is set for 2 p.m. ET with information on live stats and streaming to follow.
