Panthers Close Exhibition Play with Victory Over Stetson, 2-0

DeLand, Fla.— The Georgia State women's soccer team closed exhibition play with a victory facing Stetson, 2-0, in DeLand, Fla. on Saturday night. With the team's second victory, the Panthers will enter the regular season of competition with a home match against in-state opponent Clayton State on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Following a weather delay, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead, 1-0, with an own goal from Stetson in the 13th minute of the first half. Junior midfielder Elena Diaz extended the lead for GSU, 2-0, with a goal in the 37th minute of the second half off an assist from Josepha Vercammen.

Diaz has now connected on a team-high two goals for the season. 

GSU's regular season opener against Clayton State on Aug. 18 will be hosted by the Panthers at the GSU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. ET. Admission will be free to fans, and more information on promotions will follow.
