Beach Volleyball Closes Out Weekend in Gulf Shores Facing Three Top 10 Opponents

GULF SHORES, Ala.- The Georgia State beach volleyball team closed out competition at the fourth annual March to May in Gulf Shores with losses to three top 10 nationally ranked opponents on Saturday. No. 13 GSU fell short in outings against No. 7 Grand Canyon, No. 1 UCLA and No. 5 LSU as the team wrapped up tournament play and posted a 2-3 record over the weekend.

The second day of competition saw the Panthers face No. 7 Grand Canyon in a match originally scheduled for Friday. GSU fell short of a victory, 4-1, as sisters Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary secured the team's only victory in the fourth flight. The pair finished the weekend 4-1 in match play and moved to 15-2 as a duo on the season.

Saturday was highlighted by the Panthers' intense outing facing No. 1 UCLA. The team was narrowly defeated, 3-2, as top pair Kelly Dorn and Elise Saga fell just short of a win, 24-26, 21-12, 18-16, in a three set battle in the first flight.

Becky Tresham and Chloee Kleespies saw victory in three sets, 18-21, 21-18, 18-16, in the fifth flight while Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte secured a strong win, 21-19, 21-17, in the third flight.

Finishing out its weekend tournament slate in Gulf Shores with a rematch against No. 5 LSU, the Panthers dropped the match, 4-1, despite highly competitive outings at each flight. The Ferary sisters once again accounted for GSU's sole victory while competing on court No. 4.

The Sandy Panthers move to 10-7 on the spring.

GSU will return to tournament action next weekend at the Stetson Beach Bash in Deland, Fla. The slate of competition for the Panthers is set to include conference opponents in No. 19 FIU, No. 11 FAU and Coastal Carolina, as well as host No. 17 Stetson.
