Men's Tennis Secures Road Win Over Chattanooga, 5-2

Chattanooga, TN.- In the team's final non-conference outing before entering Sun Belt competition, the Georgia State men's tennis team posted a victory, 5-2, over Chattanooga on the road on Sunday. Patrick Lazo clinched the match point for GSU with a victory in No. 5 singles as the Panthers move to 8-6 on the season with the win.

GSU returned to form in doubles play on Sunday after having dropped the opening point last weekend following a lineup adjustment due to injuries. Lazo and partner Diego Padilha secured a one-sided win, 6-1, on doubles court No. 3. No. 74 Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds returned to play in No. 1 doubles as the ranked pair knocked off opponents in the top position, 6-3, and gave GSU the first point and an early lead.

The Panthers entered singles with confidence and earned another point with Harvey Maughan's victory, 6-3, 6-4, on singles court No. 4. The lead was extended further with another victory, 6-3, 6-1, by Kevin Huynh in the No. 3 position.

Leading 3-0, Lazo's win, 6-3, 6-2, earned GSU its fourth point and sealed the victory for the Panthers. Electing to play out the remainder of the match, Edward Tymes posted an addition win, 6-2, 6-1, with a strong performance in the team's No. 6 position as the freshman earned the Panthers a fifth and final point. UTC claimed courts No. 1 and No. 2 as both teams wrapped up Sunday's competition.

Men's tennis will return to action next weekend as the Panthers enter the conference portion of the team's schedule. GSU will host Troy on Saturday, March 19 followed by South Alabama on Sunday, March 20. Both match times are set for 10 a.m. ET and will be played at the GSU Clarkston Courts.
