Softball Sweeps DH with Jacksonville State

Richardson and Deady Combine for Five Home Runs

ATLANTA – The Georgia State softball team swept a doubleheader from Jacksonville State on Saturday as Bailee Richardson and Carolyn Deady combined for five home runs.

In Game 1, Richardson's three run home run broke a 2-2 tie and helped lead the Panthers to a 5-3 win.

In Game 2, Richardson and Deady each homered twice and Hallie Adams pitched 6.0 innings of four-hit relief to secure an 8-3 win a series sweep.

Georgia State (5-7) has now won three of four games in the I-75 Challenge leading into the final game on Sunday against Penn State set for noon.

Game 1: Georgia State 5, Jacksonville State 3
Junior Bailee Richardson hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to lead Georgia State (4-7) to a 5-3 win over Jacksonville State (6-5) in Game 1 of a doubleheader of the I-75 Challenge on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Richardson's fourth home run of the season broke a 2-2 tie. She finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

The Gamecocks got on the board with a run in the top of the first, but Emily Hodnett was able to work out of a bases loaded jam for the Panthers.

The Panthers responded in the bottom of the first as Sofie Mooney doubled to left center, scoring Richardson and Emily Brown to give GSU a 2-1 lead.

Jacksonville State tied the game in the top of the fourth, but would only get one more run in the top of the seventh as the Panthers secured a win in the home opener.

Emily Buck (2-3) pitched 3.0 innings of relief allowing just two hits and one run to earn the win. Kat Carter (3-3) picked up the loss for Jacksonville State after 4.0 innings pitched, allowing seven hits and five runs.

Game 2: Georgia State 8, Jacksonville State 3
Hallie Adams (1-0) came in relief in the in the top of the second with no outs and escaped a bases loaded jam before going 6.0 innings of relief and allowing just four hits to give Georgia State (5-7) its third win in four games and a Saturday doubleheader sweep.

Bailee Richardson and Carolyn Deady each homered twice in the second game. Richardson now has six home runs and 18 RBI in just the first 12 games of the season, while Deady has three home runs in just 22 at bats. Both are batting over .400 early in the year.

The Gamecocks scored a pair in the first on back-to-back doubles to left center to take an early 2-0 lead.

However, Georgia State erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first as Richardson hit a two-run home run, followed by a three-run home run from Carolyn Deady.

Richardson increased Georgia State's lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the second with a single scoring Emily Brown.

Jacksonville State tacked on one in the top of the third, before Deady hit her second home run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to increase Georgia State's lead to 7-3. Deady went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI in Game 2.

Richardson capped the scoring in the bottom of the fifth with a home run to straight center field. She finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Lexi Androlevich (2-2) took the loss for the Gamecocks after going just two-thirds of an inning while allowing five runs.

Following play this weekend, Georgia State will remain at home to host Auburn on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
