Panthers Open Spring 2022 Campaign at Green Wave Invitational in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS- The Georgia State beach volleyball team opened the spring 2022 season at the Green Wave Invitational in New Orleans on Friday. With losses against Tulane and LSU, the Panthers will look to rebound in the second day of tournament competition with a duo of matches against Spring Hill College and Nicholls slated for Saturday.

As new members of Conference USA in the league's inaugural beach volleyball season, GSU entered the weekend with fifth year senior Eden Hawes and senior Maddy Delmonte having been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Beach Volleyball team. Playing in the first position for the Panthers, both Hawes and Delmonte were instrumental to the team's success a season prior as GSU posted a 23-13 final record with an appearance in a CCSA conference title.

The first day of tournament play saw strong performances from the Panthers across the team's lineup. Senior Kelly Dorn and junior Elise Saga partnered in a victory over Tulane in three sets, 23-21, 20-22, 15-11, on the second court then downed LSU, 21-19, 21-14, on the first court. Sisters Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary also posted two impressive wins in match play against Tulane, 21-11, 22-20, and LSU, 25-23, 22-20.

Despite the competitive play, GSU narrowly dropped matches against Tulane and LSU, 3-2. The Panthers will have another opportunity to secure season-opening victories as the team prepares for day two of tournament action. Saturday's matchups will include outings against Spring Hill College at 10:30 a.m. ET and Nicholls at 1:15 p.m. ET.
