PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic - Senior Becky Tresham of the Georgia State beach volleyball team qualified for the 2021 Junior Pan American Games after earning third place, with partner Kaylee Glagau, at the NORCECA U23 Beach Volleyball Qualifier over the weekend in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The duo went 2-2 in pool play before earning a 2-0 victory over Paola Alvarado and Laura Quiñones of Guatemala in the quarterfinals. With the victory, the pair officially clinched their spot in the 2021 Junior Pan American Games. Â
The duo's run in the qualifier was staggered in the semifinals as they dropped a 0-2 decision to the eventual winners, Allanis Navas and María González of Puerto Rico.Â
With their ticket officially punched for the Junior Pan American Games as a result of reaching the semifinals, Tresham and Glagau faced Lázara Madán and Dayani Zequeira of Cuba in a contest to determine third place. Tresham and Glagau went on to earn a 2-1 victory, in 49 minutes, to clinch the bronze medal.Â
The Junior Pan American Games have been held every four years since 1957 with the objective being to promote new generations of athletes, as well as to make new talents visible and support the development of sports. This year, over 3,800 athletes from 41 countries will compete in the Junior Pan American Games, which will be held in Cali, Colombia from November 25 - December 5, 2021.Â
