CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 18 Sandy Panthers earned their sixth sweep of the season with a win over Tusculum before coming up short against No. 19 Stetson to open action at the College of Charleston Beach Classic.
Georgia State started the day with a morning meeting against Tusculum for the first time in program history. GSU jumped to the quick lead as Becky Tresham and Elise Saga cruised to a 21-5, 21-9 result on the bottom court. Senior duo, Bekah Brodbeck and Meagan McCall, tacked on an additional Georgia State point, besting their opposition in the No. 4 position. The Panthers continued their momentum going into the top three flights. Olivia Stasevich and Mattie Johnson clinched the GSU victory with a straight set decision on court three. Kelly Dorn and Kate Novack would collect another win before Eden Hawes and Bailey Hatchett completed the Georgia State sweep in their third outing as a pair this season.
An hour after the last ball hit the sand, Georgia State returned to the courts to face No. 19 Stetson. GSU defeated the Hatters 4-1 in last weekend's meeting. Angel and Bella Ferary collected their 13th victory as a pair to put the Panthers on the board. Saga and Tresham would find their second win of the day by outlasting their opposition after being down by six points in the third set. Despite having the 2-0 advantage, GSU could not get their footing on the top three courts as the Hatters picked up their momentum. Georgia State held tight matches on each court, but ultimately Stetson emerged with the 3-2 team victory.
