Georgia State Blanked by Coastal Carolina on the Road

CONWAY, S.C.- Georgia State women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon. This marked the second Sun Belt loss for GSU this season.

The Panthers (2-8) fell behind after conceding the doubles point. Denisa Gheorghe and Nansi Toskova, who shined in their first outing as a pair, fell on court three. Despite remaining close in the top two positions, Coastal Carolina edged out Eva Chivu and Maddy Frediani to seal the one-point advantage.

Georgia State could never regain footing as Coastal Carolina picked up points from courts six and three.  Andreea Stanescu outlasted her opposition in a tight first set. Meanwhile. Alexia Alvarez, who had dropped the first set, held an advantage in the second frame. Despite their best efforts to put the Panthers on the board, the Chanticleers would clinch the team victory with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Toskova. Competition halted after the secured Coastal Carolina victory.

After a nine-match road stretch, Georgia State will return home for a Friday tilt with in-state opponent,  Mercer on March 12. Last year, GSU defeated the SoCon competitor on the road in what would be the season finale of the abbreviated 2020 season. Fans can follow along via live stats.
