No. 19 GSU Stumbles Against Nation's Top-Programs

BATON ROUGE, La. -- No. 19 Georgia State beach volleyball dropped a pair of duals to the nation's top-two opponents, to close action at the Tiger Beach Challenge on Sunday. The Sandy Panthers fell to No. 2 Florida State 5-0 before stumbling by the same result to host, No. 1 LSU.

In the morning session, No. 2 FSU, who defeated LSU last night, came out strong, taking the bottom two courts in straight sets.  Georgia State could not regain footing as FSU continued to earn points in the top three flights. Despite taking their dual to a third frame, Meagan McCall and Kelly Dorn could not hold on, as FSU earned the dual's final point.

In the afternoon session, GSU showed their scrappiness and grit on the bottom two flights against No. 1 LSU. Positions No. 4 and No. 5 each took their dual to three-sets and fought hard to earn each point. Despite the valiant efforts, the Tigers would emerge from both courts victorious. LSU gained momentum as the top three flights took the court. The host school clinched the team victory with a quick decision on court one before adding to their tally with a win in position No. 3. Olivia Stasevich and Mattie Johnson fell in a marathon first frame on the second court. Despite staying close throughout much of the following frame, LSU would edge out the Panthers to add to their point total.

Georgia State is back in action Wednesday, March 12 for the annual GSU Day of Duals. The Sandy Panthers welcome Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga, and Mercer to downtown Atlanta for a day full of action. GSU's first serve is slated for an 8:00 a.m. start time. Fans can follow the action via Periscope and live stats.
