NEW ORLEANS- No. 17 Georgia State bested Houston Baptist and No. 20 Tulane to finish a perfect weekend at the NOLA Classic. With this weekend's success the Panthers have registered six consecutive victories.
After finishing yesterday's action with a sweep over Spring Hill, Georgia State did not miss a beat in the morning match. The Sandy Panthers came out ready to find their second victory of the season over Houston Baptist. The Ferary twins, who were celebrating their birthday, began the day with a quick 21-12, 21-12 decision on court four. Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte, the Panthers veteran line one pair, extended the Georgia State lead before Elise Saga and Becky Tresham clinched the GSU victory in the fifth position. With the remaining two courts going to three sets, the Huskies battled to get on the board. GSU remained level headed, as they emerged victorious on both flights to earn their second consecutive sweep.
In the weekend finale GSU battled host No. 20 Tulane. The two squads squared-off last weekend in a nail-biting battle, where Georgia State edged out the Green Wave 3-2. Today, the Panthers entered the dual wanting to find the win and to improve upon their score from the previous meeting. Saga and Tresham found their third victory as a pair to take the first point of the dual. Georgia State would clinch the team decision with victories from positions one and four. Despite having dropped the team victory, Tulane showed their determination on the second court, ultimately outlasting the Panthers to get on the board. Kelly Dorn and Kate Novack added to the GSU point total to finish the weekend with a 4-1 victory over the Green Wave.
