Van Fleet Earns 150th Career Win as GSU Records Trio of Victories

Video: Recap of the day with Beth Van Fleet and Becky Tresham

NEW ORLEANS- No. 17 Georgia State shined in the opening day of the NOLA Classic, collecting three victories. Head coach Beth Van Fleet accumulated her 150th career win at the program's helm with today's performances

In the morning match, Georgia State battled Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The wind played a huge factor for both squads as every player on the courts had to make adjustments to their strategy in the conditions. Senior duo Bekah Brodbeck and Meagan McCall found the first of many Georgia State points of the day with a 21-19, 23-21 decision on court four.  The Ferary sisters cruised to a 21-11, 21-13 result on court five to add to the point total. An Islanders victory in position No. 3 would put Texas A&M Corpus Christi on the board. The top two flights engaged in challenging three-set matches against the Islanders. The Panthers clinched the first dual as Mattie Johnson and Olivia Stasevich found the win. Shortly afterwards Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte would close the action with an additional victory for the Panthers on the top court.

GSU did not have much time to recover as they immediately faced Central Arkansas for the first time in program history. The Sandy Panthers earned victories on the bottom four courts to take the dual, including a victory from Stasevich and Johnson on court two. The win marked fifth-year Olivia Stasevich's 71st career victory, which ties former teammate Georgia Johnson for fifth-most career wins while representing the blue and white. UCA would avoid the sweep outlasting Eden Hawes and Bailey Hatchett, who were playing for the first time together this season, on the top court.

In the afternoon finale, Georgia State would keep their momentum and level of play high, as they closed with a sweep over Spring Hill. This matched marked the milestone victory for head coach Van Fleet.

Georgia State returns to the sand tomorrow to finish play in Louisiana against familiar foes. First GSU battles Houston Baptist at 11:15 a.m. ET before squaring-off against host No. 20 Tulane at 2:45 p.m. ET. Fans can watch all of the matches via Tulane streaming on YouTube.
