ATLANTA- No. 18 Georgia State beach volleyball earned a trio of wins at the annual Day of Duals on Wednesday at the GSU Beach Complex. Veteran pair, Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte, led the charge with three victories. Meanwhile, rookie twins, Angel and Bella Ferary, notched their first win as a pair.
The success propels the Panthers to 7-4 on the season. Additionally, the victories add to GSU's continued success in defending the home sand. Georgia State is 6-0 at home over the past two seasons.
The fun began with an early morning tilt against Coastal Carolina. Bella Ferary and Kate Novack, who registered their first victory as a pair last weekend, struck first for the Panthers on court 4. Gordon and Tresham extended the GSU lead, winning in position five. With the 2-0 lead, Hawes and Delmonte clinched the first team victory with a straight set decision on court 1. Despite dropping the team win, Coastal Carolina's pairs on courts two and three rebounded by outlasting Georgia State in tight three-setters.
After a long pause in action, Georgia State returned to the court hungry for more. The Panthers began their tilt with Chattanooga, a young program, with a 2-0 lead, as the Mocs did not have all five pairs. GSU only needed to find one win to take the dual. In addition to Hawes and Delmonte, new pairs in Elise Saga and Bekah Brodbeck and sisters Angel and Bella Ferary represented the blue and white. Each pair found straight set decisions to earn the 5-0 victory.
GSU continued their momentum in the day's finale against Mercer. Once again, the Panthers were represented by a combination of veterans and new pairs. Senior duo, Meagan McCall and Bekah Brodbeck, downed their opponents in position No. 4 with dominant serving. This marked the pair's first outing and victory of the season. Gordon and Tresham once again extended the point total, finding a straight set result on court 5. Hawes and Delmonte, Johnson and Stasevich, and B. Ferary and Novack fed off the home crowd and their teammates' success, securing the sweep on the remaining courts.
Georgia State will have a quick turnaround as they head to Gulf Shores, Ala. this weekend to face tough opposition in No. 20 Tulane, No. 10 TCU, No. 3 LSU, and host UAB. The Sandy Panthers will begin the weekend with a highly anticipated rematch with No. 3 LSU. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m. ET.
