Diaz Called up To National Team

Ana Diaz has been tapped to compete with the Puerto Rican national team for two games in February.

ATLANTA -- Freshman Ana Diaz will compete with the Puerto Rican national team for a pair of games in February as announced by the Puerto Rican Football Federation this week.

Diaz will join the squad for the February Training Camp as they take on Dominican Republic on Feb. 18 and 21 in Santo Domingo. The training camp is used to evaluate players ahead of the selections for the World Cup Qualifiers in November.

"This experience means everything to me," Diaz said. "I find it a great honor to represent Puerto Rico and play for the island I love so much. I am most excited to be able to see how much I have progressed since being here at Georgia State and apply that at a high level."

Diaz made 13 appearances in the fall, her first season with the Panthers. She scored once and recorded an assist. Five of her six shots were on goal. She scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute on September 27 as Georgia State took down rival Georgia Southern 1-0.

"We are all really proud of Ana and can't wait to see what she can do at the international level", head coach Ed Joyce said. "She has worked hard during her short time here and to see it rewarded so early in her career is impressive."

"I feel blessed to represent my family back home and my family here at Georgia State," Diaz said. "Just like we say here, I have to approach this opportunity with a positive, competitive attitude and be #relentless."
