Panthers Eager to Kick Off 2020 Season

Georgia State will open the season Sept. 11 at Mercer.

ATLANTA -- Head women's soccer coach Ed Joyce released the 2020 schedule Thursday as the Panthers prepare for a 14-match season.

"We are excited to get back to some semblance of normality," Joyce said. "This has been an abnormal preseason with new challenges. After weeks of scrimmaging each other, the players are ready to face someone new in the coming weeks."

Georgia State will kick off its season Sept. 11 at Mercer and will play three road matches before the home opener on Sept. 20 against Sun Belt-foe Coastal Carolina.

"The league coaches were all proactive and we decided on a schedule format that would cut down on travel," Joyce explained. "We split the league into east and west with each school playing their respective conference opponents twice for a 10-game conference slate."

The Panthers will host rival Georgia Southern Sept. 27 and make the return trip to Statesboro on Oct. 18. GSU will play four non-conference matches including two against Mercer.

"I am most excited to see this talented group of kids come together and play a game and give these student-athletes the opportunity to have a college experience again," Joyce said. "Getting them back on the field representing Georgia State will hopefully provide them an outlet."

Fans attending home matches at the GSU Soccer Complex are encouraged to bring their own seating to safely maintain distances from other fans while cheering on the Panthers.
