ATLANTA- As part of a series highlighting our alumni, this week we caught up with Lane Carico, a former Georgia State beach volleyball player.
Carico began her collegiate volleyball career as a standout court player at University of Miami where she was named the 2011 ACC Player of the Year. Upon graduation she moved to Atlanta to compete on Georgia State's inaugural beach volleyball team in 2013.
The California native compiled 34 wins in her one season in downtown Atlanta, which still stands as the GSU record for most wins in a single season. Carico and teammate Katie Madewell advanced to the semifinals at the AVCA National Championship, the highest placing at a national championship in any sport in school history. Carico finished her collegiate volleyball career as an AVCA Beach Volleyball All-American.
"It is hard to pick a favorite memory from playing at Georgia State! My fondest memories are of doing the day to day things with the really awesome people," said Carico.

After graduation, Carico began her professional beach volleyball career. She made an immediate impact on the tour and was named the AVP Newcomer of the Year in 2013. Over the years she has picked up impressive victories on both the AVP, FIVB, and NORCECA tours. In 2019, Carico and her husband welcomed a baby girl. "The biggest lesson I learned while playing at Georgia State was about humility and gratitude," said Carico. "The people around us contribute largely to our ability to thrive. I cannot say enough about the people I met while playing there."
