Cabrero Named Preseason All-Sun Belt

Jimena Cabrero made the All-Sun Belt Second Team as a freshman in 2019.

NEW ORLEANS -- Sophomore Jimena Cabrero was selected to the 2020 Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Team announced by conference officials on Thursday.

Cabrero turned heads as a freshman in 2019 and earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors after starting 19 matches and playing in all 20. She finished with a team-high six goals while adding two assists for 14 total points.

"Jimena is a special player who proved last season that she is one of the top talents in the conference," head coach Ed Joyce said. "I am proud of the hard work she puts in during training to perform at a high level and it is great to see that effort recognized by the league's coaches."

Five of her goals last season were game-winners, tied for the most among all players in the conference. Arguably her biggest goal of the season came in the Sun Belt Tournament as Cabrero lifted the Panthers past Coastal Carolina in the 79th minute to advance in the postseason.

Cabrero ranked tied for seventh in the league in goals scored, tied for eighth in total points and tied for second in goals scored among all freshmen in the conference.

Cabrero and the Panthers kick off the 2020 season on Sept. 11 against Mercer in Macon.
