CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Georgia State Sandy Panthers swept a doubleheader at the Creekside Beach Classic in Charleston Saturday afternoon, improving the team's overall record to 7-3 on the young season. State took down St. Leo 5-0 in the morning session, and doubled up with another sweep of Coastal Carolina to close out the day.
The Panthers got a quick 2-0 lead on the Lions with wins on courts four and five.Â
Kelly Dorn and
Kate Novack would clinch the victory with a 21-10, 21-7 win on court three. Lines one and two would roll to victories to complete the sweep, marking the second sweep over St. Leo this season.Â
Once again in the day's second dual courts four and five would give Georgia State the early 2-0 lead. At line five,
Elise Saga and
Cara Guthrie outlasted their opponents 21-16, 23-21 in their first outing as a pair. For the second time of the day, Dorn and Novack would clinch the dual with a 21-17, 21-15 win on court three, improving to 8-2 on the season as a pair.
Eden Hawes and
Maddy Delmonte would secure the sweep, outlasting their opposition 21-17, 23-21 to take the final point of the dual. Â
Gordon and Tresham have compiled a six game winning streak, and the duo have only dropped one dual all season.Â
"We have been working really hard on the small details in the preseason," said Gordon. "We hope to continue to transfer these skills throughout the season."
The Panthers will look to keep the momentum charging tomorrow in a meeting with College of Charleston to finish this weekend's play. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.Â
"We are looking forward for one more chance to play in the nice weather and improve our record this weekend," said Gordon.Â
