Johnson Earns Spot in Record Book, Panthers Win Trio of Matches

Georgia Johnson earns her 71st career win as a Panther in front of a home audience

ATLANTA --Senior Georgia Johnson picked up two wins to help lead Georgia State to a 3-0 performance at the Day of Duals Tuesday. Johnson has earned 71 victories in blue and white, best for the fifth most in program history.

The Australian came to Atlanta four years ago eager to play and increase her volleyball IQ. As soon as she took the sand, she was noticed by the coaching and training staff.

"As a freshman our strength coach at the time mentioned that he saw leadership qualities in her (Johnson)," said head coach Beth Van Fleet. "She is such a dedicated athlete. Now as a senior leader, she is motivating and inspiring to the others on the team."

As Georgia State faced No. 15 TCU, Johnson and senior partner Olivia Stasevich shined as veterans on the court. The pair's straight set victory helped propel the Panthers to a narrow 3-2 victory over the Horned Frogs.

In the middle of Tuesday's action, Georgia State edged out UNF 3-2. This marked the second team win over the Ospreys this season.

During the day's finale, Johnson produced another victory on court two. This time the political science major partnered with Kaylee McClure in the marathon match, which secured GSU's sweep over Mercer.

Johnson and the Panthers will travel to California to face five top-15 programs next week. This marks her first trip to the Golden State since her freshman season. Now as a senior, this trip out West means even more.

"We get to play some massive schools. It is a big opportunity," said Johnson. "During this season I have learned to appreciate everything more and more since I know it is all almost over."
