Senior Spotlight: Morgan Muzi

Morgan Muzi is a finance major from Johns Creek.

Senior Morgan Muzi was born and raised in nearby Johns Creek, but her path to Georgia State contains many twists and turns.

When it came down to choosing a school, Morgan was torn between Loyola (Maryland) and Navy. She ended up attending Loyola in Baltimore and would play two seasons there before something just didn't feel right.

"I was considering giving up soccer because I just wasn't enjoying it anymore," Muzi said. "I enjoyed my time at Loyola, but it was time for me to come home."

Morgan enrolled at Georgia State and while she was still thinking about being done with soccer, she decided instead to reach out to head coach Ed Joyce to see if she could try out for the Panthers.

Not only would Morgan make the team as a walk-on, but she'd go on to start nine matches for GSU while helping the team to eight clean sheets.

"When I started playing for Georgia State I felt my passion for soccer rejuvenated," Morgan explained. "That love that had faded was back and I came to love the sport again."

Switching schools as a sophomore can be difficult. Luckily for Morgan, she knew two Panthers already from club soccer. Those connections helped her meet the rest of the team and eased some of the challenges of starting with a new team.

This season Morgan has once again been a critical part of GSU's success on defense. Starting all 13 matches, Morgan played the second-most minutes of anyone on the team in the regular season and helped guide GSU to five clean sheets, tied for third in the Sun Belt.

"I enjoy having the whole game in front of me," Morgan said. "It's fun to be the last line of defense in front of goal."

Morgan picked up soccer at a young age when her older sister began playing the sport. Soccer was a bond for Morgan and her sister, who also ended up playing collegiately.

"We have a very close family," Morgan said. "My parents always support me and lift me up when things get difficult. My parents are definitely my biggest influences."
