Cabrero's Goal Knocks off South Alabama in Mobile

Jimena Cabrero scored in the 107th minute to lead GSU to a 1-0 win.

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. -- Jimena Cabrero scored her first goal of the season in the 107th minute Sunday to lead Georgia State to a 1-0 win over South Alabama.

Cabrero, who led GSU in goals as a freshman last season, earned Georgia State its first win over the Jaguars since 2009 and the first win in Mobile since 2003. Sunday's win also lifted the Panthers into first place in the Sun Belt Conference East Division with 10 points. The Jaguars and Coastal Carolina are tied for second with 9 points each.

For Georgia State, Sunday's contest marked the second double overtime game in three days after GSU earned a draw Friday night at Troy.

"It was our willingness to play for each other that brought us through to the end," head coach Ed Joyce said. "I'm very happy for Jimena. She's such a great teammate and its great for her to get that first goal of the season."

Freshman Jaddah Foos got the nod in goal and recorded six saves to keep the Panthers in a position to get the win on the road.

"Jaddah was great. She is starting to settle in to the way a college goalkeeper needs to be and I think the clean sheet will give her some confidence moving forward," Joyce said.

Next up for GSU is Appalachian State on Oct. 8 in Atlanta. The Panthers beat the Mountaineers 2-1 in 2OT in their first meeting on Sept. 17.
