Senior Spotlight: Alex Addington

Alex Addington is a senior majoring in communications.

When your father works for the DEA, you get used to living in new places.

Senior Alex Addington was born in Peru and has lived in North Carolina, Mexico City, New Hampshire, Texas, and Virginia (twice). So when it came time for her to choose a college, distance from home wasn't a factor.

"Moving out of state for college wasn't a big deal because I had been moving around my entire life," Alex said. "I had a few other schools in mind until I took my visit to Atlanta. I loved it and knew I wanted to live in a big city."

Alex came to GSU from Ashburn, Va., where she played soccer at Stone Bridge H.S. As her surroundings changed growing up, soccer became a constant in Alex's life.

Alex began playing soccer while living in Mexico City when she was 10 years old. Because they couldn't find a girls' team, Alex joined the all-boys Real Madrid club team.

Soccer was a way for Alex to meet people whenever they moved to a new place.

"I've made friends through club soccer on each team that I've played on," Alex said. "I've been able to make friends all around the world."

Those relationships are a big part of why Alex has enjoyed her time at Georgia State.

"My teammates here have made it so easy to be away from home," Alex noted.

Alex is graduating in the spring with a communications degree and hoping to do an internship next summer.
