Senior Spotlight: Arianah Black

Arianah Black is a senior from Conyers, Ga.

An injury in high school changed quite a few plans for senior Arianah Black.

Arianah was looking forward to leaving Atlanta for college before an ACL injury sidelined her during her junior year at Young Americans Christian School.

"I knew I wanted to go to a big city away from home," Arianah recalled. "After going to such a small school in high school, I was looking forward to a big, urban campus somewhere."

Although Arianah had been recruited by several schools prior to getting hurt, her injury resulted in not having many opportunities when it came to choosing a school.

Her club coach happened to know GSU women's soccer head coach Ed Joyce and mentioned to Joyce that he had a kid who was being overlooked due to her injury and having to miss a season of soccer.

Arianah was offered a spot after Joyce watched some film on the high school senior. Although she had previously been looking to leave the state, Arianah realized that GSU offered her the college experience she was looking for.

"I was super excited about being around so many people," Arianah said. "I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was looking forward to it."

From high school Arianah to college senior Arianah, the city of Atlanta has been crucial in her growth as a person.

"Living in the city has taught me a lot. It's so much fun and helps you grow up and be independent," Arianah said.

Arianah's favorite activities include trying out new restaurants around the city and exploring different running trails in the region.

In the summer she runs a different trail every day with the Chattahoochee River Trail and the Silver Comet Trails being two of her favorites.

Arianah plans to graduate in December and will take some online classes to prepare for nursing school. The online classes will allow her to continue doing what she loves off the field; exploring the beautiful city of Atlanta and all it has to offer.
