Johnston Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA -- Maddie Johnston is this week's GSU Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring her first career goals in two matches last week as the women's soccer team extending its unbeaten streak to five-straight matches.

The freshman scored her first collegiate goal Thursday in GSU's 1-0 win over Appalachian State at Center Parc Stadium. Johnston was called on in the 25th minute to take a penalty kick and beat the keeper to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. That goal proved to be enough for the Panthers to top the Mountaineers.

Johnston followed it up with her second career goal Sunday in Georgia State's 2-1 win at Coastal Carolina. The goal came in the 37th minute and gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The Acworth, Ga., native is now tied for the team lead in goals scored this season.

Georgia State will return to the field on Thursday at 7 p.m., hosting Mercer at Center Parc Stadium.
