Ryff's Game-Winner in OT Makes it Three Wins in a Row

GSU defeated Coastal Carolina 2-1 Sunday in Conway.

CONWAY, S.C. -- Jolie Ryff's 99th minute goal gave GSU its third win in a row as the Panthers knocked off Coastal Carolina 2-1 Sunday in overtime in Conway, S.C.

Georgia State took a 1-0 lead in the first half as freshman Maddie Johnston scored her second goal in as many games in the 37th minute. The Panthers finished the first half with 13 shots compared to Coastal Carolina's four.

The Chanticleers turned up the pressure in the second half and found the equalizer in the 86th minute to force overtime. Sunday marked GSU's fifth overtime game this season.

GSU took back the momentum in overtime and quickly recorded three shots before Ryff's goal ended the game just nine minutes into OT to avenge the team's loss to CCU earlier this season. GSU is now 4-0-1 in overtime games.

"It shows that we have what it takes when it comes to overtime," Ryff said. "What we're doing is working. Just need better chances early so we can avoid overtime."

Sunday's win secured GSU's spot in first place in the Sun Belt East Division. The Panthers are now 5-1-1 in the Sun Belt. This season matches GSU's best conference start since the team started 5-1-1 in the CAA in 2010.

Georgia State returns home to host Mercer Thursday at 7 p.m. at Center Parc Stadium.

"Playing at the stadium is cool. It's just a really good environment," Ryff said.

Admission is free to GSU's matches at Center Parc Stadium. Fans are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
