No . 19 Georgia State beach volleyball split a pair of duals to close out the Bayou Classic in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The Panthers defeated North Florida 4-1, but fell by the same score to the No. 4 LSU Tigers.
The reigning CCSA Pair of the Week, Maddie Gordon and Becky Tresham were 2-0 on the day to round out another perfect weekend. The pair is now 17-4 on the season and have won their past 11 matches.
In the morning session, GSU got out to an early 2-0 lead once again thanks to the four pair of Gordon and Tresham and the five duo of Ashley McGinn and Kelly Dorn. The Panthers would clinch the duel thanks to a court two win from Maddy Delmonte and Eden Hawes. State would not be able to pull out a third set win on court three, but Stasevich and Johnson, who were a perfect 10-0 in third sets last season prevailed to give the Sandy Panthers a 4-1 win.
In the afternoon session, Gordon and Tresham finished off another perfect weekend with a two set win, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead over LSU. GSU would force third sets on courts one, two, and three, but No. 4 LSU would outlast the Panthers earning a hard-fought 4-1 win.
The Panthers are back at home next weekend for the Diggin' Duals Tournament Friday and Saturday at the GSU Beach Complex. The Panthers will face UNCW and Arizona State on Friday and honor seniors Brooke Weiner and Ashley McGinn before Saturday's tilts with College of Charleston and Tampa.
