Meyberg Wins Sun Belt Cross Country Championship

Lotte Meyberg earns GSU's third individual title since 2012.

HAMPTON, Ga. – Georgia State's Lotte Meyberg won the 2019 Sun Belt Cross Country Championship Saturday morning at Nash Farm Battlefield Park.

The junior from Buettelborn, Germany ran the championship 5K in 17.11.7, 15 seconds better than the second-place finisher to give Georgia State its third individual Sun Belt champion since 2012.

Meyberg took first place early in the race and maintained a large lead for the second half of the course.

"I am very happy for Lotte and her well-deserved victory. She is the third Sun Belt champion that I have had the pleasure to coach. She is a fast runner, a great student and an even better person," head coach Chris England said. "Having the home course advantage today, Lotte floated up the hills pulled away from the 81 other competitors. Already a champion on the track, her cross country title continues to lengthen her list of accolades, cementing her in the records as one of the all-time GSU greats."

Meyberg is the third Panther to win the Sun Belt individual title since 2012. Katherine Showalter won the championship in 2012 and Hannah Stefanoff won the title in 2014.

Meyberg was named the 2019 Sun Belt Women's Runner of the Year and was named first-team All-Sun Belt.

Angela Alonso earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt First Team after placing fourth. Alonso gained three spots over the final 2K to earn a Top 5 finish.

The Panthers finished sixth in the team standings as Arkansas State claimed the team title.
