Panthers Drop Two Close Duals

What you need to know:

*GSU Beach fell in duals against Grand Canyon University and Florida International Saturday afternoon.

*Kate Novack and Amie Held were winners of both of their individual matches.

*Georgia State finishes the tournament with a 2-2 record, and holds an 18-7 mark on the year.

MIAMI- GSU Beach lost two close matches to ranked competition on day two of the FIU Surf N' Turf Saturday afternoon. No. 9 Georgia State fell to both No. 11 Grand Canyon and No. 12 Florida International by a score of 3-2. After going 2-2 on the weekend, the Panthers are now 18-7 on the season.

In the first dual of the day, GSU took an early lead thanks to a 21-11, 21-16 court three win from Amie Held and Kate Novack. The Panthers would go up 2-0 when Allie Elson and Georgia Johnson won on court four, 27-25, 21-16.

After losing the first set, Eden Hawes and Ashley McGinn would rally to win the second before falling in the third frame. Grand Canyon would tie the dual score 2-2 behind a win on the number one court, and close out the 3-2 decision with a victory on court two.

GSU found themselves down 2-0 in the finale after dropping the points on courts one and five. After losing the first set on courts two, three, and four the comeback was on. Held and Novack would again rally to win the second and third set, as would Johnson this time partnered with Olivia Stasevich to tie the dual 2-2.

Tiffany Creamer and Brooke Weiner would rally in the second set to force a decisive third, but ultimately fall in the final frame 15-13.

Next weekend the Panthers are back in the Sunshine State for the Seminole Beach Battle. Georgia State will take on TCU, UAB, UNC Wilmington, and Florida State in Tallahassee.
