
ATLANTA – Georgia State's Max Herrmann won the Sun Belt Conference Champioship last week following a one-hole, three-man playoff at The Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla, earning him this week's GSU Tournament Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines.
Herrmann shot 73-70-67, saving his best round for last. On the first playoff hole, he dropped a birdie to top teammate JJ Grey and Troy's Calum Masters, while leading Georgia State to the No. 1 seed for the match play championship.
In match play, Herrmann defeated South Alabama's Brooks Rabren 4&2 in the semifinals. In the afternoon, with Georgia State trailing 2-1, Herrmann defeated Troy's Cam Norman to tie the match and give the Panthers a chance for another conference championship.
For the season, Herrmann earned seven top 25 finishes in 10 events and is second on the team with a 72.30 scoring average, which he lowered to 71.89 this spring.
A President's List student, Herrmann and his twin brother, Alex, are from Woerthsee, Germany.
