Women's Soccer Opens Conference Play 2-0 At Home

What you need to know:

*Georgia State holds an 8-1-2 record for the season following a 3-1 win over UL Lafayette.

*The Panthers continue conference play on next weekend, heading to Arkansas to play Arkansas State and Little Rock.

ATLANTA- The Georgia State women's soccer team started their conference schedule off strong, coming away with two wins at home this weekend following a 3-1 win over UL Lafayette on Sunday. The Panthers to improved to 2-0 in the Sun Belt and 8-1-2 overall.

The Panthers maintained the ball for the majority of the game, holding the Ragin' Cajuns to just eight shots. Georgia State set a season high for shots in a game with 33, surpassing the previous high of 23 shots at Alabama A&M.

Junior Suzanne Arafa had the first goal of the game after just 13 minutes of play, her sixth of the season.

After going into the half leading UL Lafayette 1-0, the Ragin' Cajuns scored to tie the game 1-1.

Back-to-back goals by Caitlin Ray and Kylie Ruffule sealed the win for the Panthers, with the goals coming just three minutes apart. It was Ray's second game-winning goal of the weekend, and her fourth goal of the season. Ruffule's goal was her second of the season, coming with an assist from Alexis Thomas.

“This weekend was a great way to open conference play, and coming out with six points is fantastic. I'm really pleased with the way the girls are playing and hopefully we can match it next weekend in Arkansas,” head coach Derek Leader said of the win.

Georgia State heads to Arkansas next weekend to play Arkansas State and Little Rock.
